Flat Rock Playhouse Studio 52 will present a world premier production of The Shadow Queen. Based on The Snow Queen, a fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson, The Shadow Queen is set in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. This retelling follows the journey of two siblings in search for their older sister who was taken by the mysterious Shadow Queen. To face their fears of what lies in the unknown, the siblings must rely on their love for one another, a love that makes them stronger, wiser, and braver than they could have been on their own. Drawing from the rich Appalachian traditions of storytelling and music, this show explores the power of community, whether established or fleeting, and the importance of stories to express identity.

Join us after the Oct. 28th performance for the Studio 52 Camp Fire Fundraiser and enjoy hot dogs and s’mores by the FRP firepit! A Camp Fire Fundraiser for Studio 52 with hot dogs and s’mores will take place on Friday, Oct. 28th following the performance at the FRP Bonfire Pit. Tickets to the fundraiser are only $5.00 per person. Call the FRP box office at 828-693-0731 to purchase tickets.

The production has benefited greatly from the creativity and generosity of our local community, without whom, this production would not be possible. The show features 15 local students, some returning Studio 52 performers and some first time performers, who will be joined by local musician, Aaron Coffin (who is also the grandfather of a cast member). The production is musically directed by local student, Amanda Wood, as she works towards a future career in Music Education. Parents and friends of the cast were also instrumental in creating many of the costumes, props, and set pieces used in the show. Our community reaches out even further into the history FRP The Vagabond School of the Drama, as our performance will take place in the rehearsal hall at Flat Rock Playhouse which for years served as the main stage for the Theatre for Young People.

The company includes Jacey Bergman, Michelle Foster, Jayna Gerber, Lindsay Hall, Cyrus Hardin, Jonah Hardin, Erin Justice, Liliana Henderson, Amber Martin, Welles Pender, Harper Robinson, McCrea Robinson, Flynn Rollins, Hayla Smith, and Amanda Wood. Olivia Ruth Palmer, Studio 52 Teaching Artist and Administrator, directed the show with Riley Hewitt as the stage manager. Ezra Hardin will work with the production as an assistant stage manager.
