Join us as we recognize over 100 years of public use recreation in Pisgah National Forest.
What The Day Involves:
We are celebrating our national forests and conservation on this special day! Participants have options for guided walks, gardening projects which highlight biodiversity, and service projects.
What Is National Public Lands Day?:
In 2017 NPLD honors it’s 24th year connecting citizens with their public lands. The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) supports this annual event. NEEF’s focus is educating the public on how the environment impacts their lives. Hundreds of public use sites participate in NPLD each year.
Get Your Group Or Organization Involved:
Examples of service projects your boy scouts troop, youth group, homeschool group, etc. may participate in include:
- Invasive species removal at the Cradle of Forestry
- Bird house building and installation
- Work in the seedling nursery
- Use of the citizen science tool iNaturalist to catalog species at the Cradle of Forestry
If you are a group leader with an interest in service, find out how your group can “lend a hand, care for the land” at the Cradle of Forestry on NPLD by calling (828) 877-3130.
