“Predators come in all shapes and sizes; those with feathers, those with scales and those with fur – each is unique in its own way. Meet Park Ranger Kevin Bischof to learn about some of the predators of Lake James and their adaptations that make them so effective in the hunt for prey.
This will be an indoor program and includes a craft activity to design and create your very own predator.
Bring your creativity and enthusiasm to the Catawba River Area basement classroom at 10 a.m.
“Looking for a unique way to spend quality time with your Valentine? Hermit thrushes, cedar waxwings, American goldfinches and brown creepers are among the many species of birds that spend the winter at Lake James. Ranger Jamie Cameron will be on hand to lead the hike, spot and identify birds along the way.
The hike will take place on the 2.25-mile Fox Den Loop Trail.
Dress appropriately for the weather and meet at the Catawba River Area breezeway at 10 a.m.”
“Birding can be enjoyed year ‘round at Chimney Rock, and the ample viewsheds provided by leafless trees during our cooler months are an excellent time to check out our feathered friends. After the success of last season, ACT will continue to partner with Bright Star Touring Theatre and Red Herring Puppets for additional student matinees. Our Student Matinee performances are exciting and inspiring – they are a great way for your students to experience live theatre!

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to a butter battling military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton’s attention to the speck of dust and his “loitering” care of Mayzie LaBird’s egg has elicited taunting and accusations from the rest of the animal kingdom, except for Gertrude McFuzz, who longs for his attention, and JoJo, whose “thinks” save them all in the end.
