Asheville jeweler Alice Scott will be on location Wednesday, May 18 from 12 – 4pm demonstrating introduction to anticlastic forging, a silversmithing technique using hammers to stretch and distort metal. Alice studied jewelry and metalsmithing at the Rhode Island School of Design. She currently works out of her West Asheville studio, using many traditional fabrication and forging techniques to create decidedly modern pieces. Alice says, “I’m interested in making work that celebrates traditions. I borrow symbols from a variety of spiritual and cultural practices in order to create my own world of sacred objects. Through my techniques and the symbols I use, I feel I am able to make a bridge between ancient and modern times.”
Alice is represented by our sister gallery, Gallery of the Mountains, located just across the street from us inside The Omni Grove Park Inn.
