Woodfin Elementary School is aiming to curb preventable illnesses through a new community health fair, Leap Into Health, held on Monday, February 29, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Bird Sanctuary and Beaver Lake Stroll
Let’s meet in the Bird Sanctuary parking lot at 10am. We’ll enjoy a leisurely stroll through the boardwalked sanctuary then follow the sidewalk along Merrimon Ave. to the dirt path along the lake. Bring your strollers and carriers. This is also a fantastic path for young walkers, but keep in mind we will be along the water. We’ll find a cozy spot in the field to stop and eat a snack.
Our Wizard Academy is not just for those that love art, but also for those that love magic! Hurry and register, or we shall cast a spell on all those that disappoint!

This fun and interactive program is designed for Pre-K kids ages 1-5.
The program meets on Monday mornings from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. and Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
We will have our imagination playground, mats, pop up tents, tunnels, inflatables, building blocks, basketball, and more set up in the gymnasium. Please note that inflatables are for children ages 3+ only per the safety warning on the equipment.
Cost for the program is $2/child per visit or $10/child for unlimited visits on Mondays and Wednesdays from September through December of 2019.
**Please note the dates where the program will not meet: 11/11 (Veteran’s Day), 11/25 & 27 (Gym floor refinishing)**
**Parent supervision is required as this is not a drop off program.**

Geared towards sophomores and higher, this workshop covers opportunities to enroll in Career and College Promise, as well as general admission to higher education.
Recommended for high school juniors, seniors, parents & adults considering further education.
One in three adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner. Most parents are unaware of how common this issue is in the lives of young people and they often do not know what signs to look for. This workshop will cover the basic dynam- ics of dating/domestic abuse, characteristics of an abusive personality, red flags to be looking for, barriers to leaving an abusive relationship, and healthy relationship qualities. Parents will learn how to approach the issue of healthy and abusive relationships with their child and they will learn how to recognize if she/he is being victimized or exhibiting abu- sive behavior. We will discuss strategies related to interven- ing and supporting her/him in getting help for abuse or the abusive behavior. Parents will also learn about Helpmate’s free services and other resources related to dating violence.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed for parents, care- givers, teachers, school staff, neighbors or any other caring citizen. It is designed to give skills to help an adolescent (13- 18+) who is experiencing a mental health or addiction chal- lenge or is experiencing a mental health crisis. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, re- views typical adolescence and teaches a 5-step action plan to help youth both in crisis and non-crisis situations.
