Basketball, BBQ & Beer

 

 

The Southern Conference, Asheville-Buncombe Regional Sports Commission and the Southern Conference Asheville Local Organizing Committee will host a pregame indoor tailgate party prior to the SoCon Men’s Basketball Championship on Monday, March 7. The event – named Basketball, BBQ & Beer – will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and will take place in the concourse area of the U.S. Cellular Center. The event will give patrons an opportunity to sample fare from various Asheville-area barbecue restaurants and breweries.

Those attending the event will also need to possess a ticket for Monday night’s championship game, which will take place at 9 p.m.

This extraordinary adventure is sure to ignite the curiosity in all of us! Directed by Bradshaw Call.

Three performances will be held on the Mainstage. The performance schedule is April 29, 2016 at 7:30 pm and April 30, 2016 and May 1, 2016 at 2:30 pm.

The tuneful, Academy award-winning score, with songs by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice, including “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me,” will send you soaring! Based on the 1992 Disney film Aladdin. Directed by Marci Bernstein..

Astronomy Club of Asheville Monthly Meeting

You are invited to our next indoor meeting this Thursday evening, October 5th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Manheimer Room at the lower level of the Reuter Center on the UNC Asheville campus. The meeting is free and open to the general public.

October’s guest speaker is OLLI instructor and Astronomy Club of Asheville member Mark Whipple (http://www.astroasheville.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Mark-Whipple-Bio.pdf) who will present “Venus, Earth’s Evil Twin” (http://www.astroasheville.org/next-meeting-presentation/)

In addition to Mr. Whipple’s presentation, we’ll discuss upcoming astronomy events in our community, club Secretary Richard Reynolds (another OLLI instructor) will make a short presentation on the paradox of why those above the arctic circle might still experience sunlight during the winter solstice, and we’ll raffle off two great books (http://www.astroasheville.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ACA-Raffle-Items-October-2017.pdf).
