Fridays, June through Labor Day
Each Friday during the summer months‚ one bluegrass or old-time band and one clogging team are hired to perform for Pickin’ in the Park. Several hundred people come to listen‚ setting up their lawn chairs a distance from the stage. The band performs songs and tunes and provides the music for the clogging team which typically does a succession of five- to ten-minute routines. At other spots away from the stage‚ local musicians meet and play in numerous jam sessions. The park has a concession stand open during the event.
Directions: Take Interstate 40 to exit 31. Begin following the signs for Canton Pickin’ in the Park. As you do this‚ you will continue on Hwy. 215 South just past the Pisgah Football Stadium. The Recreational Park will be on your left.

THE 2023 SCHEDULE:
The fifth annual Box Turtle Day celebrates North Carolina’s state reptile, the eastern box turtle. Participants can sign up for guided box turtle telemetry hunts, watch live reptile demonstrations, make turtle crafts and follow Shelly, the Arboretum’s resident turtle, along the Arboretum’s self-guided TRACK Trail.
A fun time for parents and little ones to come together and move! Through games and songs, they will learn spatial awareness, how to connect with others in a group, and gain practice following simple directions as a team. Most importantly, their confidence in their movement abilities and readiness to be part of group classes will take off! Most Saturdays, from 9:30 – 10:00 am.
