‘Shipwrecked’ Vacation Bible School begins (4yrs-5th Grade)
June 11th-15th, 8:45am-Noon
Venture onto an uncharted island where kids are rescued by Jesus! Anchor kids in the truth that Jesus carries them through every storm in life. They’ll learn to hold onto God’s promises when they are lonely, they worry, they struggle, do wrong, and feel powerless.
VBS is open for ages 4 by 8/31/18 – 5th Grade. If you are a VBS Volunteer, we have programs for children younger than four too. For more information, please contact us in the Children’s Ministry office at 693-3493 or email us at harrisl@fbchnc.org.
There is no cost to attend our VBS.

Shavuot Cooking Class
Come join us for a Shavuot Cooking Class at the JCC on June 8th! Learn to make sweet and savory dairy dishes and celebrate the festival that marks the completion of the seven-week counting period between Passover and Shavuot.The class is led by Ofri’s Home Cooking, a personal chef service and cooking school.
The class is limited to 10 participants.
The menu will feature sensational sweet and savory dairy dishes:
Chard and cheese quiche
Olive and cheese bake
Cheese Bourekas
Sweet potato patties w herbed yogurt
Salad w fresh figs

ASHEVILLE: Ingles Independence Day Celebration
Celebrate Independence Day at the South Slope Block Party presented by Ingles Markets! Western North Carolina’s favorite 4th of July celebration is moving to Downtown Asheville’s vibrant South Slope neighborhood for a day filled with FREE fun and festivities!
This Fourth of July, the Asheville Downtown Association and the City of Asheville are excited to invite you to the Ingles Independence Day Block Party, presented by Ingles. We are thrilled to announce that this year’s event will be free to attend and is moving to the vibrant South Slope area, specifically on Coxe Avenue and Buxton Avenue in Downtown Asheville.
- The festivities kick off at noon with a thrilling performance by the Ultimate Airdogs, alongside a variety of local food and beverage vendors where delicious treats will be available for purchase throughout the day. Additionally, a number of local marketplace vendors will be present, offering unique goods and crafts that showcase the best of Asheville’s vibrant community.
- The entire South Slope neighborhood is participating, ensuring an exciting day filled with kids’ activities, live music, and engaging activations for all ages. The Rock Academy will provide musical entertainment during the early part of the day, setting the perfect mood for a celebration of independence and community spirit.
- At 4:30 PM, the main stage opens with Asheville’s very own Secret Agent 23 Skidoo as the emcee, followed by performances from DJ Badonkey Kong and The Legendary Tuesday Night Funk Jam House Band. The night will feature a headline performance by The Pink Stones.
- Don’t miss the grand finale – a dazzling fireworks display set to light up the night sky at 9:30 PM. This family-friendly event is the perfect way to celebrate our nation’s independence in the heart of Asheville. Bring your friends and family, and enjoy a day filled with music, fun, and community spirit.

Great Beginnings & Great Smiles Girls on the Run of WNC 5K
Chase your dreams and celebrate all girls being joyful, healthy, and confident at the Great Beginnings & Great Smiles Girls on the Run 5K.
The Asheville and WNC community is encouraged to join 500+ girls in 3rd through 8th grade from counties throughout Western North Carolina who have trained with volunteer coaches at 35 sites for the past 10 weeks as part of the Girls on the Run International program. The program combines running with lessons about important topics such as preventing bullying and processing emotions.
The 5K is a family-friendly event open to the public – all are welcome to join. New! We are chip-timing the run this year! Runners and walkers of all ages and levels are encouraged to register.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Girls on the Run of Western North Carolina scholarship fund, which aims to make the non-profit’s program accessible to all girls in the community, regardless of their ability to pay the registration fee.
Registration is $30 online. Registration will also be open on 5K day at the Asheville Outlets starting at 9:00 am. Strollers are welcome. Pets are not allowed at the event for safety reasons.
