It’s going to be a hot week so let’s meet up at this shady park for an awesome playground and creek time. I recommend water shoes if your child will want to get in the creek. I will likely dress my kid in a bathing suit and bring dry clothes to change into as she always gets super wet around any water. We plan on playing then staying for lunch. If you bring lunch I recommend leaving it in your car or making sure your lunch containers are secure, the crows are sneaky at this park!
THE DIRECTIONS ARE APPROXIMATE. You will be able to see the park on the right just before turning right onto Community Center Circle. There are parking areas all around the circle.

The She’s the First Cupcake Classic is the largest fundraising effort for the She’s the First UNC Asheville chapter. All the money raised from the event will be donated directly to She’s the First, a registered 501c3 nonprofit that provides scholarships for girls in developing countries to be the first in their family to attend school. A free t-shirt is included with your registration fees. Immediately following the 5k, there will be a carnival featuring local vendors, homemade cupcakes, and crafts and activities. The carnival is free and open to the public.
The Cradle of Forestry celebrates National Get Outdoors Day. Begun in 2008 by the USDA Forest Service, this event supports Americans in seeking out healthy, active outdoor lifestyles. The day includes skills teaching and demonstrations by western North Carolina’s outdoor recreation community. If you are visiting the Blue Ridge Mountains, add GO Day to your list of things to do. Admission to the site is free on this national event day.
GO Day spurred from “Every Kid in the Woods” which supports children and adults to explore public lands. On this day local organizations and NGOs partner to showcase how you can indulge in an adventure within your “naturehood.” Across the nation sites offer a chance for you and your family to unplug and connect with the outdoors. At the Cradle we host multiple activities for you to discover the forest in our NC mountains.
*Updated as confirmed*
Activities on GO Day showcase traditional and outdoor adventure sports, as well as camp and trail skills. All of this while soaking up the Cradle’s scenic setting.
