Experience Asheville’s BRIGHTEST holiday tradition atWinter Lights at The North Carolina Arboretum. Walk through the Arboretum’s gardens and enjoy unique displays and landscapes dressed in more than half-a-million holiday lights. Perfect for the entire family, Winter Lights includes interactive games, a model train exhibit, free crafts, a nature-themed animatronic children’s program and more! As the Arboretum’s largest fundraising event, proceeds generated from Winter Lights help support the Arboretum’s educational programs, exhibits and year-round. Winter Lights offers a wide array of family-friendly holiday activities. See lighted garden displays illuminate to the sounds of your favorite holiday tunes, roast delicious s’mores by the fire or enjoy a cup of holiday-inspired cocoa, cider or beer. There are plenty of things to see, eat, drink and experience at Winter Lights.

ASAP’s Local Food Experience

Meet the people changing our food system and taste the flavors of summer in the mountains, one bite at a time.

Eating local is about more than just food. It’s about the relationship with the farmer, the connection to place and heritage, and the sense of community that comes from knowing the story behind your food. It’s about experiencing something fresh, seasonal, and grown here. On August 18, 5:30-8:30, savor the food traditions of our Southern Appalachian Mountains, and meet your farms, artisans, and businesses working together to localize our food system.

Attendees will enjoy a sampling of local food tastings, small dishes, and seasonal fare served by Appalachian Grown farms and partners including Looking Glass Creamery, Sunburst Trout Farms, Imladris Farm, Green River Picklers, Dan Silo og Buxton Hall Barbecue, Waynesville Soda Jerks, Hickory Nut Gap Farm, Ultimate Ice Cream, French Broad Chocolates, HomeGrown, and more! There will also be family friendly activities, and a silent auction offering exclusive local food experiences, including farm stays, winery tours, private dinner, and more. A full list of auction items can be viewed on our website.

Ticket Information:
Tickets are $20 per person; with $10 reduced price tickets available for children 12 and under at the door. Purchase your tickets online by clicking on this link. Tickets are good for food and non-alcoholic beverages; Highland beer will be sold separately. We recommended purchasing your tickets in advance, as there may be a limited number of tickets available at the door. All ticket proceeds benefit ASAP.

12th Annual Franklin Area Folk Festival

A FREE event, this family-friendly festival features live heritage demonstrations, Appalachian crafts, old-time mountain music & jammin’ sessions, Civil War Re-enactors, antique car show/engines, kids’ activities, food, tours & more! Artisans inside Cowee School, Arts & Heritage Center exhibit Macon County’s rich heritage by teaching us about pottery, textiles, painting, and local history. By linking our future to our past, the Franklin Area Folk Festival sponsors hands-on activities to allow visitors to experience what mountain life was like way back when. These folks learned at their parents’ knee woodcarving, moonshinin’, basket making, weaving, and all the many other heritage skills they’ll be demonstrating. Highlights include quilts on display like the famous Cabarras Quilt and the Original World’s Largest Quilt, the village blacksmith, border collies’ demonstration, Front Porch storytelling, and one-room school. Come learn about the culture and folkways of our Southern Appalachian Mountains by engaging in one of the many living history experiences, a trademark of the Franklin Area Folk Festival, “A Celebration of Appalachian Heritage.”

36th Annual Hunger Walk

36th Annual Hunger Walk to raise awareness of hunger in our community, and to raise money to help feed the hungry in Henderson County. All funds raised are distributed via grants to local food relief agencies to be used for the purchase and distribution of food. Walkers are encouraged to get donations and pledges to support their walking and turn in at the walk.

We are open 7 days a week but on the weekends you will find extras! The Bakery is open everyday and the Jumping Pillow is open on weekends weather permitting.
