Sam Knob Summit Trail Hike
Join us for this moderate 2.2 mile adult paced hike to the top of the Sam Knob Summit (elevation 6045ft)! This trail will take us down a gravel path, over a boardwalk, through a beautiful meadow, with a short climb to the top with almost 360 degree views!
We will meet in the Black Balsam parking lot for our welcome circle before departing on the trail by 10:15. Once we reach the summit we will take a break to enjoy the beautiful views and have a snack before returning on the same trail. There are several places to let little ones stretch out their legs along the trail, but please bring carriers for little walkers under 3 as we will be keeping an adult pace.
Weather tends to be cooler at this elevation, but there is very little shade on this trail so bring sun protection!
POTENTIAL BABY OR CHILD HAZARD
Steep drop offs, large boulders to step up onto along trail, roots
GEAR SUGGESTION
Carriers, Sun Protection, Water, & Snacks

Pink Beds and Barnett Branch Hike
A mostly flat 5 miles in Pisgah National Forest on the Pink Beds Trail. Little-walker friendly! (although because of the distance, a back-up carrier is advised)
Let’s take a weekend road trip to Pisgah National Forest! We will hike parts of the Pink Beds and Barnett Branch Trails, for a total distance of 5 miles. Along the way we will pass through meadow, marshland, forest, and to a waterfall! The trail is flat and easy most of the way, but due to the distance, please bring a carrier for children under 5 years old.
See this website for a preview of our route: https://www.wncoutdoors.info/2015/05/trip-report-pink-beds-and-waterfall-on-barnett-branch/
We will meet at the Pink Beds Picnic Area in Pisgah National Forest, just off Hwy 276 11 miles north of Brevard. Here is a google map of the exact location: https://goo.gl/maps/r1f55dePko42 Gather near the trailhead sign to the left of the picnic area.
POTENTIAL BABY OR CHILD HAZARD
Parts of the trail pass through marshy areas using boardwalks. Could be buggy.
