Is the Feed & Seed a Church? Music Venue? Community Building?… The answer is Yes, to all of them. The Feed & Seed is the inspiration come to life by Pastor Phillip Trees. The building they call home is revived from its former glory and retains it’s history and local culture. The church focuses on community and brings the best of Appalachian Music to the area every weekend. In 2004, as builders in the nation’s capital added the finishing touches to the National World War II Memorial, a physician’s assistant in Ohio began asking some of his older patients about the memorial. They’d like to go, they said, and hoped some day that they would, but as the months passed, it became clear that for the vast majority the dream would probably fade. They lacked the money for an airline ticket and hotel stay and lacked the stamina for a long car trip to Washington. Thus began the dream of transporting America’s Veterans to Washington, DC to visit those memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and their friends. Blue Ridge Honor Flight started as a dream in 2005 and was originally founded as HonorAir. HonorAir and the National Honor Flight programs have been responsible for flying over 200,000 WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans to our nation’s capitol to experience their memorials. The Blue Ridge Honor Flight board and volunteers plan 2-3 flights from the Asheville and Greenville airports each year.
