Scientists need YOUR help in studying birds everywhere, including your own backyard! Join us for an introduction to ornithology, the study of birds. You’ll learn how to recognize the birds that call western North Carolina home in the fall and winter, and how to join our crew of ecoEXPLORERS- kids who submit observations of plants and animals for scientists to study and earn prizes while they do it. Participants will receive a free pair of binoculars to aid their exploration, and upon registering as a participant at www.ecoexplore.net, receive an ecoEXPLORE patch.
Find out how you can earn your ornithology badge and a free pass to Great Backyard Bird Count Day at The N.C. Arboretum on February 11 and help ornithologists band and release songbirds. This free program is for ages 8 to 13, but all ages are welcome to attend.

Start 2020 off with a bang! The 5th Annual Resolution Run presented by Bairds welcome families and participants of all ages to come run, walk or crawl their way to completing their first resolution! The 5k is a perfect distance for all abilities to run/walk and to start off your new year! The 10 mile event was designed with endurance road runners in mind. Both events are timed with chip timing.
Runners and walkers participating in the 5k event will explore nearby downtown neighborhoods and experience the best of the Asheville City while completing their first 3.1 miles of the year. Runners participating in the ten mile event will wind their way through the beautiful rolling neighborhoods in N. Asheville around the flat (and fast) Beaver Lake area and through downtown Asheville.
We are excited to partner again with the YMCA of Western North Carolina, iDream Athletes Foundation and the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries for the Resolution Run! The WCRM will host a shoe drive at packet pickup and on race day. So BRING SHOES, BRING SHOES, BRING SHOES! Especially gently used or new tennis shoes! Tennis shoes seem to be the best, as the homeless population likes them, because they hold up for such a long period of time. The shoes that the WCRM receive during the Resolution Run event will go towards their annual “Foot Care Clinic”.
Pre-event Packet pick-up and Registration will be held on New Year’s Eve at Baird on December 31, 2019 from 2-4pm. Baird is located at 79 Woodfin Place, Asheville, NC.
The races start and finish at 10am in the heart of downtown Asheville at Pack Square.
Bring warm layers of clothes, tie up you running shoes and get ready to ring in the new year.
We highly encourage participants of all abilities and speeds but we do have awards categories for the Resolution Run 10 mile and 5k.
