Saturday STEAM

Join AMOS from 2-4pm in the STEM Lab for a fascinating Saturday STEAM!

From 2pm-4pm visitors are encouraged to drop into our classroom and STEAM lab for planned hands-on activities. See their event calendar for todays topic.

On Saturday afternoons, the Saturday STEAM program offers a hands-on experience that either complements our exhibits, or touches upon a topic in science related to current events that may go beyond what our exhibits offer. The goal of Saturday STEAM is to provide continued science education and enrichment opportunities to the community that celebrate the science of Western North Carolina. Saturday STEAM programs are not lectures, but times for local experts to share expertise in an informal manner using short talks (10-15 mins) visual aides, hands on activities, and demonstrations.

Mornings With Mommy Educational Playdate

First and third Tuesday of the month.
Mornings with Mommy isn’t preschool, and it isn’t childcare, it’s something different.
Mornings with Mommy is a fun and easy way for you to enjoy activities with your children and meet other adults (moms, dads, grandparents, caregivers, etc.). There will be age appropriate activities for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. And the best part is, we do all the planning, you just sign up! Moms can mingle with each other and enjoy activities with their children including: arts and crafts, sensory table, flannel stories and story time, music, educational toys, and a snack.
The program costs only five dollars per family per session and includes all snacks and activities.

Spanish Storytime/Programa de Cuentos Infantiles en Espanol

2nd Thursday of the month (April 13th has been cancelled)

Spanish Storytime/Programa de Cuentos Infantiles en Espanol.  Cuentos infantiles, canciones y rimas para ninos de todas las edades.  Durante estos programas tendremos invitados especiales y juegos infantiles.  Recuerde, Hablar dos idiomas enriquece la educacion de sus hijos.  Para mas informacion en Espanol contacte a Evelyn Alcaron 828-290-7134.

Fletcher Father Daughter Dance

The Town of Fletcher will host its popular Father-Daughter Dance on Saturday, February 10th at Calvary Episcopal Church. This is a special opportunity for dads to spend time with their daughters enjoying music, dancing and refreshments. Each daughter will receive a flower, photo by a professional photographer and the opportunity to make a valentine craft. Two dances will be offered, a 3:30 p.m. dance and a 6:30 p.m. It is recommended that children 5 and under attend the 3:30 p.m. dance.

Tickets:
Tickets will be on sale to Fletcher residents beginning Wednesday, January 10. Non-residents may buy tickets beginning Wednesday, January 17.

Tickets for Fletcher Residents are $16 per dad and $6 for each daughter. Non-resident ticket prices are $18 per dad and $8 for each daughter.

Be Active Day!

Freeplay, tables, demonstrations on stage and at tables, giveaways, info, folks to talk with and more. Everything is free. Kids everywhere playing. Government agencies, private agencies, private businesses such as karate and dance and non-profit groups like scouts, churches etc.

Exploring Birds: Intro to Ornithology by the WNC Arboretum (all ages)

Join us as we learn about how to help scientists study birds at your library and in your own neighborhood! We’ll learn how to recognize some common birds and how you can use colors, sizes, flight patterns and more to identify the wide variety of birds that call our area home. All participants get a free pair of ecoEXPLORE binoculars and learn how to earn badges and prizes by becoming an ecoEXPLORER. For all ages.

The Accidentals at Sky Lanes Bowling Alley

The Accidentals will be invading Sky Lanes Bowling Alley for the Fringe Festival 2017 Kickoff Party!
You never know what to expect with Asheville’s Creative Collective of Improvisational Dancers Exploring Noise, Time, Art, Levels and Space, but for this special performance you can at least expect balls. Lots of brightly colored neon balls.

Free Museum Sunday (Buncombe County Residents)

Generally, we offer Free Museum Sunday’s to Buncombe County residents on the first Sunday of every month. However, we were closed on January 1st, so we will be moving Free Museum Sunday to January 8th.
