This is a unique opportunity for families all over the greater Asheville area to know what public education options are available for their students. In an effort to reach a broader base of families, this is a school information event for families and community members to come to one centrally-located, neutral, accessible location to learn about the public educational opportunities in the Asheville area and make the best choice for their students.
Scientists need YOUR help in studying plants everywhere, including your own backyard! Join us for an introduction to botany, the study of plants. You’ll use microscopes and magnifying glasses to observe plants up close and learn how to join our crew of ecoEXPLORERS- kids who submit observations of plants and animals for scientists to study and earn prizes while they do it.
Participants, upon registering as a participant at www.ecoexplore.net, receive an ecoEXPLORE patch. Find out how you can earn your Botany Field Badge and a free pass to Mountain Science Expo on April 8, 2017. For ages 5 to 13 but all ages are welcome to attend.
Join world renowned storyteller Dr. Joseph Sobol for his afternoon of storytelling of “Jack and the Least Gal.” It is a two-act fantasia on Appalachian wonder tale themes, an Appalachian “Into the Woods,” in which the many incarnations of the folk tale hero Jack and his feminine counterpart, the Youngest Daughter or Least Gal, meet on the road of trials and walk in and out of one another’s adventures. A contemporary take on the wonder tale tradition, replete with original and traditional songs and tunes, moving from comedy to romance to mystic rebirth.
This event is FREE and open to the public. Doors will open at 1:30PM in the Pack Library auditorium. Sponsored by The Friends of the Library.
Magical Magnets with Hands On! Science Museum. Are you attracted to science programs? Investigate the marvelous mysteries of magnetism and create a craft to bring home. This program is free but registration required. Call 250-6480 to register.
Constructive fun for the entire family. Transform recycled materials into boats that float. We will provide the materials, you provide the creativity.
See the symphony up close! Several musicians from the Asheville Symphony will visit Pack Library to play for our youngest music lovers. Local Kindermusik maestro, Yvette Odell will lead children and families in movement and rhythm activities sure to delight. This program is free and for babies, toddlers and children up to age five.
