We are pleased to launch a brand new Summer program for 2017, CDS Enrich, for CDS students Grades 6-12!

It’s all about stimulating intellect to complement our curriculum, delving into topics that pique curiosity and inspire learning and thinking in new ways. Four themes will feature an exciting variety of classes led by teachers.

Hunter Subaru Legacy Run / 5K / Kids Fun Run

Join us for this family-friendly event in Brevard! The Hunter Subaru Legacy Run is May 6th in the “heart of Brevard.” Both the 5k and Half Marathon routes are USATF certified, and $2,000 in prizes will be awarded in multiple categories. Walkers and strollers are also welcome in the 5K, and there will be a kids’ fun run, an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house, face painting and music, too!

Bird Walk along Hendersonville´s Oklawaha Greenway led by naturalist Michele Skeele

WHERE: Meet at pavilion in Patton Park parking lot, 114 E. Clairmont Drive (just off Ashville Hwy.)

The Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway will host the second in its 2017 “Oklawaha Greenway Walks and Talks” educational outings on Saturday, May 13th at 8 a.m. when we go birding along the Greenway. The program is open to the public at no charge. Meet at Patton Park in the circular pavilion near the basketball courts. The walk will be about 90 minutes, returning to Patton Park. The hike will be held rain or shine and participants are urged to bring binoculars and good walking shoes.

Avid naturalist Michele Skeele will lead the hike. Skeele earned a degree in Biology at UNC-Wilmington and has been a serious birder for over 20 years.

 

“During last October´s walk we identified over 20 species, which taught us just how valuable the Greenway is for migrating birds. We hope to see even more birds this spring,” said Suzanne Hale, a member of Friends of Oklawaha Greenway.

The Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway is a group of local organizations and area residents who recognize the many community values offered by greenway trails, such as improved health, recreation, off-road transportation, connectivity, preserved open space, and economic opportunity. The Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway promote use of the existing greenway, and are working to connect it to Blue Ridge Community College. Members include the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy, Friends of the Ecusta Trail, MountainTrue, Hendersonville Fun Friends, the League of Women Voters of Henderson County, and representatives from the community at large.

Weaverville’s Music on Main

Music on Main is a free, outdoor concert on Main Street in Weaverville.

The Stage sets up in front of Town Hall. Folks are encouraged to bring chairs, friends, kids, and their appetite. There will be food, fun, beer, and really great music.

Music on Main is a rain or shine, good time.

2024 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

4:00pm Ben Balmer … A new local favorite! Born in Michigan, musically “raised” in Austin, and now Smoky Mountain influenced Americana, Folk, and Blues artist.

6:00pm Asheville Second Line … Their fun costumes, musical energy and street charisma have made them a favorite at local festivals, including the annual Mardis Gras Parade. The band is made up of a group of musicians with day jobs dedicated to bringing heritage sounds to the streets of Asheville.

7:00pm Queen Bee and the Honeylovers … A local legend, Queen Bee and the Honeylovers is a dance band that performs classic swing, blues and Latin music. Vocal-driven with an infectious groove, the Honeylovers are guaranteed to put a grin on your face and a tap in your toes.

ACTIVITIES:

Kids Zone … Kids are encouraged at Music on Main! Our enclosed Kids Zone will have plenty of space to run around with a ton of exciting activities for the kids (note: no alcohol is allowed in the kids zone).

Beer and Wine … Beer and wine is available for purchase in our Beer Tent and can be consumed inside the Music on Main boundary.

Food Court … Twisted Laurel is sponsoring and selling yummy food at this year’s Food Court.

 

Mars Hill Farmers and Artisans Market (fka Madison County Farmers and Artisans Market)

Every Saturday morning from 10am-1pm, from April to October. The Holiday Market will be held every Saturday from 10am-1pm, beginning of November to beginning of December.

A producer only tailgate market located on the campus of Mars Hill University, located on College Street. “We offer fresh local produce, herbs, garden and landscape plants, cut flowers, cheeses, meats, eggs, baked goods, jams, honey, soaps, tinctures, crafts & more!  We can now accept Credit & Debit Cards, as well as EBT/SNAP Benefits.  Throughout the season we plan to have local musicians and cooking & craft demonstrations. ‘Gear Up, Get Ready, Game On!’ Vacation Bible School begins

June 10th-14th, 2018

Grab your megaphones, lace up your cleats, and tune up your horn. It’s time to gear up for the big game! It’s go time! Whether you’re the type to root from the stands, march in the band, cheer on the field, or hustle to the line, the time is now—it’s Game On!

Kids are under so much pressure—to perform well, to be the best, to balance schedules that are full to the brim, to excel in every arena. From that vantage point, life’s big game can seem like no fun. But when we step back, we realize that the goal is not competing in our own strength. God has already given us everything we need! He’s given us His complete Word as the ultimate playbook. He’s given us Himself, which gives us a reason to celebrate. He wants us to join His team, to train hard, to celebrate our salvation, to encourage one another, and spur each other on. So what are you waiting for? This is Spirit Week 2018. It’s Game On!
