Hendersonville’s hourly drop-in childcare! Parents get reliable kid care, when you need it! Come and play, the first hour of your first visit is FREE! With an almost 2,000 sq.ft. facility we have large open areas for play, a separated space with age appropriate actives for older children, and designated spaces for meal times and arts & crafts.

Drop & Play fills two important needs for families:

>>> First we offer hourly childcare services for children ages 1-12. This gives kids the unique opportunity to meet new friends, have fun, and socialize.

Fourth of July Party

Time for fun again, olympics, pig roast, fire works! POTLUCK, bring beer, water and leave your dogs at home! donations hoped for!

No one will be allowed inside Jackson park …

The “Big Red Balloon” will be launched the morning of the Fourth.  Whereever this balloon is visible, you will be able to see the Fireworks Display at dark. Look for the big ballon and park in town where it is visable.

OLD FORT: Annual Red, White, and Blues Ice Cream Social

Before the annual July 4th parade, enjoy ice cream or watermelon at our Red, White, and Blue Ice Cream Social. This free event is from 2:00 – 4:00 at the museum on July 4th as our way of saying thank you for supporting us. After your treat, explore the new exhibits at the museum, or register to vote! As part of our new in-house exhibit, “A Place at the Polls”, the McDowell County Board of Elections will be hosting a voter registration drive during the social. And be sure to see if you’re a winner at the Ducky Derby, supporting the local Ruritain Club. The ducks float at 3:00.

Summer Saturday Story Time

Join the Mountain Gateway Museum and the Old Fort Branch Library for Saturday Story Time every Saturday from June 17-August 19. Each Saturday features a different theme that includes a reading and an activity. Join us and the library for this new family friendly event.

Blueberry Picking

Picking is by appointment only.

Our berries are chemical free, and the season begins the 1st of June, and lasts approximately 4 weeks.
