Toddler Time is a great shared experience for child and parent. A time for your little ones to discover the joy of being active, bouncing under the supervision of their parents, and without interference from the big kids.
SATURDAYS 9-11AM
Rangers from the Sandburg Home invite the community to jump into the Park at Flat Rock for a fun day of activities for the whole family. The event will be held at the Park at Flat Rock on Highland Lake Road from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and all events are free and open to the public. Ongoing activity stations include a nature’s hide and seek trail walk, hands-on activities to learn about bugs and pollination with a live bee hive, a writing station with poetry and postcards, conservation craft-making, a wildlife show and even the Sandburg goats will jump into the park at a station to learn about where milk comes from.
The reptile wildlife show is scheduled for 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the pavilion. Naturalist Steve O’Neil started the non-profit Earthshine Nature Programs in 2010 to open the eyes and minds of everyone he meets to the wonders of the natural world. His programs inspire care, connection and respect to often misunderstood animals such as reptiles and insects. He will be joined by Alan Cameron, who has been a long-time volunteer with the Sandburg Home and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission where he works primarily on reptiles and amphibians. This educational presentation will feature some of the unique reptiles and amphibians found in North Carolina and beyond.
Visitors young and not-so-young can pick up an activity “passport” when they arrive at the park and once they visit at least four activity stations and get a stamp they will earn special Junior Ranger prizes.
This event is supported by the National Park Service, Eastern National and the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara.
