Know Your Rights: Advocacy for Children Attending Public School
***FREE CHILDCARE WILL BE PROVIDED***
Keith Howard, J.D., an expert in special education law, student discipline law, bullying, and other education-law related matters has advocated for children for much of his carreer. He will present, Know Your Rights, an advocacy workshop that provides tools and resources for parent and advocates of children attending public schools. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.
The school-to-prison pipeline is real. In these times of little or no tolerance, we need to know how to support parents and advocates working to save children from bleak futures. The atmosphere created by these policies can mean behavior that once got kids sent to the principal‘s office, now mean children are expelled, suspended and sometimes channeled to law enforcement – this is a problem nationwide; black and brown children, in particular, face disparate discipline for similar behavior as white children.
Those interested in a positive future for our children are encouraged to attend this important special programing hosted by Asheville-Buncombe NAACP at Hill Street Baptist Church, 135 Hill Street Avl 28801. FREE CHILDCARE will be provided.

Farmer Jason, Musician
11:00am-12:00pm: Mills River Library
2:00pm-3:00pm: Main Hendersonville Library
Farmer Jason has performed several thousand concerts in venues ranging from rural fairs on the Alaskan tundra to posh European performance halls. The highly acclaimed live show involves sing-alongs, dancing, and discussions about nature appreciation, ecology, and farm animals. Farmer Jason performs solo with just his acoustic guitar (no backing track gimmickry), which adds to the spontaneous, high energy nature of his concerts. Although aimed at children ages 2 to 8, everyone is invited to get involved, and they do! Farmer Jason draws his musical influences from folk, country, and rock ‘n’ roll with a dash of DIY punk rock. Grab a pitchfork, or your guitar, and climb aboard the tractor! This is the very last event of our Summer Fun @ the Library, so you won’t want to miss it!
