Holiday Childcare Camp

Dear Parents –

Hahn’s Gymnastics will be offering full day camp , morning 1/2 day camp and afternoon 1/2 day camp on Monday, September 4, 2017. The camp is available for any child who needs care on Monday, September 4, 2017. The cost for the full day camp is $36.00 per child. The cost for 1/2 day is $19.00 per child. Full day camp is for children ages 5 to 12. Half day camp is for children 3 to 12. If your child is registered in Hahn’s Gymnastics After school program there is no additional charge for the camp. Please pack a lunch and bring a water bottle for morning 1/2 day camp and full day camp.

Please call 828 684-8832, stop by the desk or go online to register. Registration is important, so we can make sure we have enough staff, supplies and snacks.

Come see what it is all about! We want you to come see what great things the community can do for others. Also, please join our walking team on September 9 at Fletcher Park for “Walk with Compassion” to help stop extreme child hunger. Please reply to this email if you too would like to walk with us. 41st Annual Woolly Worm Festival

October 20th, 9:00am-5:00pm

October 21st, 9:00am-4:00pm

The Annual Woolly Worm Festival takes place each fall on the third weekend in October in downtown Banner Elk. This festival is annually attended by an estimated 20,000 guests. The Woolly Worm festival is one of the High Country’s largest and most unique festivals.

Up to 1,000 worm racers vie for the top position and the honor of having their worm predict the upcoming winter weather at the festival’s famous woolly worm races. The winning worm on Saturday takes away a whopping $1,000 and on Sunday, $500. Worm races are limited so be sure to come early and register your worm.

In addition to the worm races, there will be delicious food, over 150 craft vendors, great music all weekend, trampoline & inflatable rides, fall foliage and beautiful mountain views. Shop for woolly worm memorabilia, souvenir shirts, and hand-crafted items that will become family heirlooms. There will be something for everyone!

The Festival is sponsored by Banner Elk Kiwanis and the Avery County Chamber of Commerce and all proceeds are given back to the community to enhance our schools, children’s programs, and to promote business and tourism in Avery County.

Admission is $6.00 for Adults, $4.00 for Children 6-12, Free for 5 and under.

Join us for Short Stacks for Big Change to benefit the Historic Carson House on September 16, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.! Tickets are $7/adult. Children 6 and under eat FREE!

Girls’ Belly Dance FREE Trial Class (10-15yrs)

For girls aged 10-15 ~ FREE TRIAL CLASS August 31st !!

In a fun and supportive atmosphere, this class teaches a traditional, non-performance style of belly dance. In Middle Eastern cultures, girls begin learning belly dance in their pre-adolescent and adolescent years to help them transition gracefully into womanhood ~ with awareness, respect and wisdom about their bodies. All the fundamentals of belly dance will be covered – posture, isolations, fluid movements, shimmies, simple combinations and fun group dances.

The class will include time to discuss how belly dance helps to:
1) strengthen core muscles, balance and fluidity
2) create a deep sense of body awareness and intuition
3) foster self-love, confidence and a positive body image
4) express emotions in a healthy, balanced way
5) create bonds of sisterhood
6) ease symptoms of moon-time (menstruation)

For girls aged 10-15 (Boys sincerely interested will not be turned away, must talk to me beforehand)
