Aldebaran Lunar Occultation at Tanbark Ridge
Come join the Astronomy Club of Asheville as we watch the Moon pass in front of the bright star Aldebaran (one of the bull’s eyes in the constellation Taurus). The event is free and open to the general public.
The club will have telescopes available to observe this Lunar Occultation from the Tanbark Ridge Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Witness our solar system’s motion in action and celebrate this brief “stellar blackout”! To learn more about the occulation, follow this link: http://
The star gaze is weather-dependent – continue to check the club’s website home page at www.AstroAsheville.org as weather could change the venue or possibly cancel a star gaze. Check-in again after 5:00 p.m. on the afternoon of the observing session for the latest info and update. Directions to Tanbark Ridge can be found here: http://

Pre-Thanksgiving with 12 Baskets, Harpoon, and Cat + Crow!
We’re celebrating the holiday a little early this year with some killer shenanigans. Come hang with us as we release our collaboration beer with Harpoon Brewery! A dollar from every pour of this beer will go to 12 Baskets Cafe: a program of Asheville Poverty Initiative, who will be hanging with us with some brochures + information about their mission. We’ll also have live music from Cat and Crow, a regular duo at UpCountry Brewing, to play some soulful original tunes.
Although it’s not required, we encourage you to bring any canned or packaged food donations to our place so that the incredible 12 Baskets team can use it to cook for families during this holiday week.
This is going to be a killer pre-Thanksgiving hang, so we hope you’ll come out and see us to benefit local nonprofits, music, and beer. Cheers!
