During the winter, Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministries biggest expense is assisting clients with heat and power. Electricity, oil, natural gas, and propane have all risen in price over the last several years. For those who were already experiencing financial hardship, this is yet another burden. Many spend cold days and nights in unheated or under heated homes because they cannot afford to heat their homes. In 2018, Deck The Trees received extensive coverage by the Asheville Citizen Times, the Laurel of Asheville, Mountain Express and WNC Magazine. Explore Asheville, for the second year in a row, named Deck The Trees as one of the top five activities for the Christmas season. This publicity brought many folks to Black Mountain and raised an astounding $27,761.02 for the SVCM Fuel Fund in donations both large and small. Most importantly, many families had the comfort of a warm home this winter because of our community. The owners of The Monte Vista, Southern Proper Hospitality, are looking forward to hosting and supporting Deck The Trees this season. As always, every penny of every donation, sponsorship, and proceeds goes directly to the Fuel Fund of SVCM. All cost associated with Deck The Trees are absorbed by volunteers, participants and The Monte Vista Hotel.
No gift is too small to help keep your neighbor warm.
