For one week only, Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co. on Merrimon is showing one of the most celebrated and beloved animated films of all time… “Spirited Away”. This film won over 30 Best Animated Film Awards around the world including the Academy Award. The most respected film critics agree it is as much a film designed for adults to love as it is for children.

The story follows a sullen 10-year-old girl who gets lost during her family’s move to the suburbs, and ends up wandering into a world ruled by gods, witches, and spirits where humans are changed into beasts. It was produced by Studio Ghibli who, along with Pixar, is the most respected animation studio in the world.

The animation is absolutely stunning which is no surprise to anyone who knows the work or writer/director Hayao Miyazaki. For only $3.00 per ticket, don’t miss a rare opportunity to see this classic on the big screen !

The Plunge – Freezin for a Reason

Be freezin for a reason at the 6th Annual Plunge Benefiting Kids in the Creek & Environmental Education! Taking place at the brand new never-before-used Canton Recreation Park. Don’t fret, there will be a bonfire to warm you up after, as well as heated indoor changing and eating facilities. Costumes highly encouraged.

REGISTRATION – 10:00 am and festivities start at 11:30. Happening rain or shine!

PRIZES – Top 3: Individual Fundraisers, School Team Fundraisers, Community Team Fundraisers, and Best Costumes. All Plungers receive a FREE t-shirt to commemorate their courage. All Plungers and spectators get a chance to win one of many great door prizes.

COST – $25 or FREE by raising sponsorships ($10 for under age 18). The depth of plunge is a personal choice – from a dip of the toe to a full immersion jump off the diving board. Mend, Alter, Sew Your Clothes Workshop (teens & adults)

Workshop on how to mend, alter, and embellish your clothes held in Pack Library auditorium. Bring a garment to repair, embellish, alter! ALL other materials supplied.

Description: This workshop will provide a space to repair, or re-work a chosen garment, and gain “tool takeaways” for use in participant’s own lives/application. The instructor will help establish repair plans with participants to suit their practical needs and aesthetic desires, with the hope that these tools will increase the longevity of our garments we love and curb the consumption of more articles of clothing! Along with basic hand sewing techniques, come prepared to share dialogue about what we think we know about clothing and connect with others about their relationship to garments. Free to everyone, held in Pack Library auditorium.
