Open House Week

Come try an entire FREE WEEK of classes at Blue Ridge Taekwondo, plus SAVE $25, at our special OPEN HOUSE EVENT!!

This is the beginning of our new curriculum/testing cycle, as well as the perfect time to get involved in a healthy, supportive sport!

Come check us out and see what our program is all about, from kids as young as 4 all the way up to adults! Wear comfortable workout clothes and jump right in, meet the instructors and other students, and learn some beginning taekwondo on us!

We pride ourselves on having a fun, friendly environment with a low ratio of students to instructors. We teach traditional Korean taekwondo, including self-defense, with a focus on character development and mental/emotional skills that will last a lifetime.

SCHEDULE:

Little Dragons (ages 4-5): Monday/Wednesday 5:30 pm

Big Dragons (ages 6-7): Tuesday/Thursday 4:45 pm, Sat. 11:00 am

Beginning Kids (ages 8-12): Monday/Wednesday 6:15 pm, Sat. 11:45 am

Adults (and teens 13+): Tuesday/Thursday 7:00 pm, Sat. 10 am OR Teens only on Sat. at 12:30 pm

Kid’s Navigation and Fire Building-L1 (10-18yrs)

Have you ever felt that learning to read a map might be important? Are you confident in building a fire with no fire starters? If you travel, hike and even go to new places frequently, this skill will prove to be quite important. Plus, you won’t have to ask creepy strangers for directions. :O Day 1: This class covers the basics of map reading and compass use. After this class, you will know how to use a map to find out where you are where you need to go. Most importantly, how to get there. Day 2: This will cover application of the skills from the Day 1, and testing out.Ages are 10-18. Cost is $45/class

Asheville’s Hidden Racial History: CLX Racial Equity Workshop

Some of Asheville’s racial history is hidden away, and some of it is hidden in plain sight. Who were the people behind names like Vance, Merrimon, Woodfin, Patton and Dickson? What people and places have been mostly forgotten? Learn about the research that Claxton students have done, and join us in a discussion about how we as a community are affected by who and what we choose to remember.

These are events put on by the Claxton Social Justice League for Claxton parents and caregivers, but anyone is welcome to attend.

Childcare will be provided for Claxton families only with sign in open at 5:45

Workshop is from 6pm-8pm and will take place at Claxton Elementary

Kid’s Intro to Camping and Campfire (6-16yrs)

Has you youngin’ always wanted to go camping, but is nervous about going out into the woods? In this short 2 hour course, we will teach your youngin’ how to enjoy the outdoors , feel comfortable and stay safe! This is a camping basics class that will teach your child how to choose the proper campsite location , how to put up a tent and safety with campfires. We will teach all about the 5 W’s and Leave No Trace. Safety is always our first priority. Playing in the woods should be fun and we will show your child the fun things you can do while Camping ! Ages 6-16- Cost is $20 per student.

Mother with Courage – Postpartum Anxiety & Depression Support Group

Has your transition into motherhood felt different than you expected? Do you feel isolated, confused, exhausted, frustrated? There is support.

Our Mother With Courage – Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD) group meets the 4th Monday of every month 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Parent with Courage Postpartum Support Circle – Weekend Edition

Attention! We’re switching up the once monthly weekend edition of Mother With Courage. All parents need community and connection – so we’re changing the weekend version of Mother With Courage to PARENTS with Courage.

Moms, Dads, and/or both parents can attend one Saturday a month with baby 0 – 18 months. We’ll discuss the challenges of parenting, orchestrating responsibilities, returning to work, and much more.

Join us THIS SATURDAY, September 14, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Homegrown Babies with mom, wife, doula, and childbirth educator Kelly Larson Brown. This meet-up is FREE.

February OFB Family Dance

Family dance for children of all ages. Aimed at families with children 6-12, but all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult, but adults do not need to be accompanied by a child. Come out and enjoy American folk dancing to live music with Diane Silver facilitating the calling.

Read to our Tail Waggin’ Tutor, J.R.

Do you love dogs? Does your child (of reading age) love dogs but dislike reading out loud? Come to see JR the Tail Waggin’ Tutor, a sweet, calm Jack Russell Terrier (Yes, an oxymoronic phrase usually), who loves for children to read to him. Each child gets at least 15 minutes to read a favorite book or pick one of ours. This builds reading confidence and enjoyment!
