Great Rabbit of Spring Celebration
Come Celebrate Equinox with an Egg Hunt and Potluck at Earthaven Ecovillage (see below for directions)! Bring a dozen or more (SUGAR-LESS) eggs to hide, a basket for each child, and an egg-centric (or spring-themed) dish to share for lunch. Simple treasures (handmade if possible, but not necessary) are preferred for eggs contents, and please no candy. Kids will congregate on the Village Green. Egg Hunt will happen in the vicinity of the Council Hall and/or the Peace Garden. Parents either drop off eggs or join in the hiding of them by 10:30am please. Once all is ready, around 11am, we will have a circle, with dance and song. We will call in the directions and the benevolent spirit of the Great Rabbit of Spring. Then we will parade over to the hunting grounds to search for eggs and a magical altar of the Great Rabbit of Spring. Maybe there will be some equinox storytelling along the way. And then a feast! 🙂
We are so excited to celebrate spring’s arrival with you. I hope many of you are able to come join us.

Talking to Young Children about Race (Limited childcare available)
The Children and Family Resource Center (CFRC) will hold its second session on Talking to Young Children About Race on Monday, March 11, 2019, from 6-8pm at Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville. This event, offered in partnership with Henderson County’s Western Carolina Community Action (WCCA), will pick up where our last panel discussion left off in May 2018. At this previous panel event, many of the 100 participants expressed a desire to look more closely at their own beliefs and experiences around race in order to best guide their children and students in developing responsible and informed attitudes regarding race. In the upcoming March session, CFRC and WCCA will provide families and caregivers with the opportunity for group discussions with other families, early childhood teaching staff, home visitors, and community members, facilitated by previous panel members and other community leaders. In these small group discussions, we will examine messages around race that may intentionally or unintentionally be shared with children and consider ways to become more thoughtful and deliberate about these messages. Parents and teachers are in a powerful position to contribute to creating more equity in the world through their own example and with their loving and intentional care of children. This session will be followed up with monthly Equity Circles for caregivers to support one another in creating lasting change in our community.
Doors Open 5:45 (if you will be dropping children off in childcare, please be sure to arrive early!)

Robert Beatty Willa of the Wood Event
A dramatic reading and reception with Robert Beatty, the #1 New York Times best-selling author of the Serafina Series, at the historic Masonic Temple Theater in downtown Asheville. Be the first to hear Robert read from his upcoming fourth book, WILLA OF THE WOOD.
WILLA OF THE WOOD is a new tale of history, mystery, and magic, set in the Great Smoky Mountains, about a young night-spirit with the ancient powers of the forest within her. One of the last of her kind, Willa must find her way in a changing and dangerous world. This is a brand new story with new characters, but Serafina fans will find themselves reunited with some old friends.
The $24.95 ticket price (plus Eventbrite’s ticketing fee + taxes), includes the following:
-A seat in the theater for Robert’s reading.
-A first edition hardcover of WILLA OF THE WOOD, autographed by the author, provided for pick-up at Barnes & Noble-Asheville Mall during the official launch week (July 8-14) or any day thereafter (or it can be shipped to you for an additional $4).
-A reception after the event with Robert and his family.
-A Willa of the Wood bookmark, sticker, and button for each attendee.
-A special edition Willa of the Wood chapter sampler that includes the first three chapters of the book.
-Meet the author, take photos, and have your Serafina books autographed and personalized.
-A door-prize drawing to win one of at least five Advanced Review Copies (ARC) of Willa of the Wood (as soon as they become available sometime in May).
All seats for this reading event include the pre-order for the book. If this results in one or more extra books that you don’t need, then when you checkout, please select the option to donate your extra Willa book(s) to a local school. The Buncombe County and Henderson County Schools greatly appreciate your support.
The first three Serafina books will be available for sale through Barnes & Noble at the event. Food will be available for sale from various vendors at the event.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the logistics of the event, the Willa books provided to you in July will be autographed by the author, but not personalized with your name. If you want your book personalized, please attend one of Robert’s in-store book signings during or after Willa launch week (July 8-14). He will, of course, be happy to personalize your Willa book at that time.
