Bounce into Spring Festival

We’re hosting a Bounce into Spring Inflatable party on Friday, April 20th from 5-8 p.m. Thank you to Fellowship Asheville for sponsoring this event. Because of their help, we are able to keep the tickets to this event affordable for the whole family. It’s going to be so much fun! We’re still looking for volunteers to help with this event.

Sierra Nevada Tailgate Market

Sierra Nevada’s commitment to buying local can be seen and tasted from the brewery to the Taproom—and now even in the parking lot! Every Tuesday afternoon, we’re partnering with neighboring farmers and crafters to highlight the best the region has to offer. Come taste an heirloom tomato grown by Mills River’s Paul Shoemaker of Holly Springs Farm or join us as chefs from the Taproom share how to transform the offerings of Greg Carter’s Deep Woods Mushrooms into a delicious dinner. The Sierra Nevada Tailgate Market is bringing neighbors together to support and celebrate the rich farming traditions of our community. Remember to bring your reusable bag for shopping at the market.

Arm Me With Rally

As educators, we have been blown away by the amazing efforts and accomplishments of our students in standing up for what they know is right. Both the March for our Lives event and the planning that went into the 17 minutes of silence on March 14th were extremely powerful, and made us see how serious these young people are about creating real change.

On April 20th, the anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting, American students will walk out of school and protest. The #NationalSchoolWalkout is a nationwide protest of our leaders’ failure to pass laws that protect our schools and communities from gun violence. Together, students hope to send a message that there will be no more tolerance on inaction of this issue.

To show our support for students here in WNC, and across the country, ACAE is planning a rally on April 20th at 6pm. We hope to see educators, students, and anyone else in the community who support our students on this issue.

During this event, we will hear from state and local politicians about what their plans are to help protect our schools and communities against gun violence. We will hear from students and teachers as well, and we will make sure that everyone who is eligible is registered to vote.

Mr. Puffball 3 Book Launch!

Author Event: Lester Laminack and The King of Bees

Join us at The Hop for a free event with author Lester Laminack. He’ll read from his new picture book The King of Bees and answer questions and sign books.

Henry can’t wait until he can have a bee suit of his own so he can help his Aunt Lilla with the sister bees. Day after day as Henry observes his Aunt Lilla work with the beehives on their Lowcountry farm, he becomes fascinated with her bee suit and her ability to communicate with the bees. When he learns that the bees are getting ready to look for a new place to live, he tries to find a way to communicate with the sister bees to convince them to stay. An author’s note includes additional information about bees and bee conservation.

Lester L. Laminack is a specialist in children’s literacy and professor emeritus at Western Carolina University. Laminack has written numerous books and articles for educators and is a familiar speaker at professional meetings and reading associations nationwide.
