A Memorial Day Observance will be held at Lake Louise Park in Weaverville at Noon on Monday, May 28, 2018 . The guest speaker will be Joe Root, former Captain U. S. Army. Joe graduated from West Point and then served in Germany and Vietnam, where he was a Company Commander. Among other decorations, Joe received the Bronze Star with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Purple Heart. He also completed Airborne and Ranger training. For those who know Weaverville Mayor Al Root, come and meet his older brother.
The program will also include local singers Mandy Williams and Janet Cress, the North Buncombe Junior ROTC drill team, a rifle salute by the Weaverville Police, and Taps performed by the
Weaverville Fire Department. Bagpiper Howard Dusenbery will play “Amazing Grace.” This free event will have unreserved seating and free parking.
