On the Fourth Tuesday of every month, general admission to the Cradle of Forestry is FEE FREE! Additionally, National Get Outdoors Day (Sat, June 8th, 2024) and Public Lands Day (Sat, Sept 28th, 2024) are also FEE FREE.
Gather up your family and friends, pack a picnic lunch, and go discover how this innovative educational institution shaped our country’s history and imagine how it felt to be one of its first pupils.
Their trails offer visitors a chance to explore historical buildings from the time of the Biltmore Forest School (1898-1914), climb aboard and ring the bell of a 1914 Climax logging train engine, and interact with historical interpreters through programs and special events.
Inside their Discovery Center, you’ll find a gift shop, a spacious theater playing a short film about the history of their site, and an interactive exhibit hall, including a historic Bell UH-1F helicopter for children to take a virtual flight to see and feel what it must be like to work as a US Forestry Helicopter pilot.

The Appalachian True Mountain Market is a showcase of the craftsmanship, creativity, skill and ingenuity that have shaped mountain culture for centuries. This Saturday market in Downtown Waynesville will feature a special collection of artisans, performers, demonstrators, and educational displays that celebrate Appalachian culture and preserve the sacred ways of mountain life.
The festival takes place between two historic Waynesville locations- the Main Street District and historic Shelton House a few blocks away and will be part of a larger grouping of heritage-themed events planned for “Carolina Heritage Weekend.”

The Start of the 2024 Woodfin 5K is 9:00 on Saturday, April 27th in Woodfin, NC. The run/walk is hosted by, located at, and a FUNdraiser for the Woodfin Elementary School.

Known for its unified support of visual arts, Asheville is welcoming back the Downtown Asheville Festival of the Arts this Memorial Day Weekend. Residents and visitors will see some of the finest locally made art alongside national artists’ works during this free, outdoor event. A scenic stroll amongst sparkling jewels, one of a kind paintings, exquisitely crafted glasswork, stunning sculpture and every medium of hand-made art, all in the artist’s mecca that is downtown Asheville, rounds out the perfect Memorial Day Weekend for art appreciators around the county. The show is set up on the streets of North Pack Square and South Pack Square as well as the Terrace Lawn and Reuter Terrace.
