You are invited to our nationally recognized Kid Safe Workshop. Free for all school age children ages 5-12.

No one likes to think about this, but it can happen to anyone. Expect the best, but be prepared for the worst!

Every parent wants their child to be safe, prevention is the answer! Register now, this workshop is a must do!!!

Target Car Seat Trade-In program

Sept 3rd-13th

When you bring your car seat to Guest Services, you’ll get a coupon for 20% off a new car seat, stroller or select baby gear. Target will accept and recycle all types of car seats, including infant seats, convertible seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats and car seats that are expired or damaged. Materials from the old car seats will be recycled by Target’s partner, Waste Management.

Easter Egg Hunt (5th Grade & Under)

Join us for an annual Easter Egg Hunt. Come hunt some Easter eggs, hear the Resurrection Story, and enjoy some refreshments. For 5th grade and under.

Easter Storytime

On Saturday April 20th we will have a Easter story time at 1:00pm. We also have coloring pages and a scavenger hunt. Every kid who comes in for story time will get a free book!

Hold My Juice Box: Easter Egg Hunt (10yrs & younger)

Our latest Hold My Juice Box event is looking to be eggcellent!

Bring your family out for our annual Easter egg hunt. The Meadow will be filled with 5,000 eggs hidden in every nook and cranny. The hunt will kick off at 12:30 but these eggs will go fast, so be sure to get here early!

Please note that this event is for children ages 10 and younger.

Junior Ranger Day at Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center

Calling all Junior Rangers to the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center for a day of hands-on activities and educational fun. Learn why national parks matter and how you can be a part of the team that helps keep parks healthy. This event will take place on Saturday, April 20th, 2019 from 10am to 1pm.

You’ll get a chance to:

– Become an official Junior Ranger
– Learn how to camp
– Use your detective skills to match historic artifacts with their intended use
– Look inside a Park Ranger vehicle

Mother’s Day is approaching! This year we’re putting together a special day for all the little ones to make unique gifts for their mamas 💕 Drop in between 12 and 3 and let your kiddos make something they are excited to give!

Shelton House Easter Egg Hunt and Kids Craft Event

Starts at 10 am. Bring your basket. A $5 donation is requested. Special Eggs included on the grounds! Starts in the Barn. Hope to see you there!Special “Gold” Dollars will be found in some of the eggs!

National Train Day Celebration in Hendersonville

In honor of National Train Day, make plans now to attend Hendersonville’s Apple Valley Model Railroad Club celebration of this event on Saturday, May 11, 2019 with an open house and many activities. The Club is located in the Southern Railroad Depot, corner of 7th Avenue and Maple Street in Hendersonville and will be open from 9am to 4pm on May 11. The club will be selling pizza, drinks and desserts. There is no admission charge but donations are greatly appreciated

This will be a fun filled day for the entire family with many events, special guests (a real locomotive) and speakers to discuss railroading in North Carolina. There will be many trains running on both the inside and outside layouts. The N Scale club across the tracks will also be open this day.
The club features an indoor HO scale model railroad depicting towns in Western North Carolina and an outdoor G scale layout featuring lumber and gravel operations in the early 1900s that occurred in Western North Carolina. The club has Thomas and Emily trains for young children to operate and features an interactive display of railroad memorabilia.

There is an ongoing model railroad under construction project visitors can view as well as an interactive 110 year old large scale steam locomotive. Other features and activities include:
A Blue Ridge Southern railroad locomotive and 2 man crew on location
Video cameras in our model trains show the engineer’s view on a closed circuit TV
– A switching layout to challenge your skills
– An operating interactive Morse code telegraph system
– Go on a scavenger hunt for items on our model railroads
– Videos of rail operations including a video of the 611 on the Saluda grade playing on our screen
– Visitors can also tour our real caboose.

The Sandburg goats will be in a petting area along with Sandburg Home representatives to answer questions about the goats and the home.
Speakers will be giving short talks about local railroad history throughout the day. Topics include:
1 History of the Saluda grade
2 Wrecks that occurred on the Saluda grade
3 The railroad that runs in Hendersonville now
4 History of our depot & our club
5 Introduction to the Craggy Mountain Railroad in Asheville
Plan now to spend Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Apple Valley Model Railroad Club from 9am to 4pm as we celebrate National Train Day.

Festival of Heroes

Warriors, Wanderers, Wakandans, & Westerosi! It is our very great pleasure to announce the next Festival of Heroes & Goblin Market on Saturday, October 26th! Located at the Montford Park Players‘s beautiful outdoor Shakespearean amphitheater, this will be a wondrous day of skilled fighting and musical entertainment!

This fall Festival of Heroes will feature the Warriors of Ash and their marquee steel sword tournament, a live musical performance by Balkan & Turkish folk band Black Sea Beat Society, medieval battle and dancing with SCA Barony of Hawkwood, Finnish folk band Slack Bird, blessings by our very own SuperVixen Conversationalist, walk-on foam fighting with The Wandering Swordsmen and The Valley of Ashes, and sing-a-longs by the delightful Assemblage of Singing Folk!

We are also delighted to be joining forces with the Goblin Market to bring even more talented artisans, artists, and entertainers to display and offer their beautiful creations! Of course we will also have Fox Hill Meadery‘s finest on tap and delicious feasts provided by The Wooden Ladle several other area chefs!

This is a FREE and inclusive event that EVERYONE of all ages, from all lands, and in all themes are welcome at! It will be Rain or Shine!

Artisans, Artists, and Entertainers will be announced shortly. In the mean time, those interested in joining us are HIGHLY encouraged to register without delay!
