North Carolina Glass Center is offering FREE 30 minute Flameworking Studio and Hot Shop Studio classes as part of their Community Day series, in an effort to welcome a more diverse population into their field.
UPCOMING COMMUNITY DAY DATES:
May 4th 10:00am-6:00pm – BIPOC Community Day. These classes are open to those who identify as persons of color. June 1st 10:00am-6:00pm – LGBTQ+ Community Day. These classes are open to those who identify as LGBTQ+ DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES AVAILABLE:
HOT SHOP: Learn the basics of glassblowing as your instructor assists you during the entire process! Choose between crafting a paperweight, ornament, or cup, then customize your piece with your choice of two colors. Available to students 13+ FLAMEWORKING: Receive a guided experience to create your own glass keepsakes in their flameworking studio. In this hands-on class, you will work with an experienced instructor to create a unique piece of glass art. Choose between crafting a marble, pendant, or glass icicle, then customize your piece with your choice of two colors. Your instructor will walk you through all the basic skills you will need to create a piece of your very own. Manipulating rods of glass, you will learn to apply the colors of your choice, and revel in the exhilaration of melting glass! Available to students 11+.

Summer Movie Camp
If you are looking for something to do with the kids once the school year ends and summer break kicks off, AMC Theatres has you covered. River snorkeling is a fast-growing hobby to see a world just under the surface of the mountain rivers. Participants receive wetsuits, wetsuit socks, snorkels, and masks. Participants provide shoes that can get wet and securely attach to feet. Meets at the Outdoor Recreation Building with transportation provided from Recreation park.
