Transit of Mercury
Come join the Astronomy Club of Asheville on Monday, November 11th (Veteran’s Day), from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. as we observe a rare solar event – the transit of Mercury, as our solar system’s innermost planet will cross the disk of the Sun! The event is free and open to the general public.
The club will have telescopes equipped with solar filters to safely observe the sun, located at the Reuter Terrace in Pack Square in downtown Asheville (directly across from the Asheville Fire Department.) To learn more about how to attend, visit https://www.astroasheville.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Where-to-See-the-Mercury-Transit-Nov-11-2019-venue.pdf.
Transits of Mercury occur only about 13 times per century, and the next one visible from Asheville will be in the year 2049! Don’t miss your opportunity to see this rare occurrence.
Learn more about why Mercury transits are rare and what to expect: https://www.astroasheville.org/2019-mercury-transit/
Note – this event is weather-dependent and could be postponed or cancelled due to clouds or high winds. Please visit the club’s website at www.AstroAsheville.org on the morning of November 11th for the latest weather announcement.

Welcome to kooky, upside-down world of the Addams Family, a family dealing with the same challenges faced by any other family: the Addams kids are growing up. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations: change.

MASTERWORKS 2: Horror at the Symphony: Fright Night (Clyne, Daugherty, Mussorgsky, Berlioz)
Berlioz’s grand Symphonie Fantastique headlines this ghoulish concert. Inspired by an opium trip, it remains one of the most original and unusual symphonies in the standard repertoire. The first half offers three unusual counterparts: Anna Clyne’s Masquerade, a thrilling overture written by one of Classical music’s rising stars, Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain in it’s rare, more gritty and powerful original version and finally, Daughterty’s Dead Elvis — a performance piece for bassoon soloist complete with an Elvis jumpsuit!
