Meet at Grove Stone Quarry for an afternoon of exploring! Be sure to call the Colburn (254-7162) ahead of time to reserve your spot! There will be a $10 charge.

Learn about the origins of granite, sand, and gravel for building and transportation infrastructure. The Grove Stone quarry is an important long-term partner to the Colburn Earth Science Museum. Go on a tour with Hedrick Industries staff to see the pits, rock piles and equipment. Then visit the on-site stream, a high quality tributary to the Swannanoa River, where you can find and learn to identify aquatic macro-invertebrates. Bring comfortable walking shoes.
