Street Creatures and Dancing Beasts
AAAC Main Gallery | October 4 – 25
This exhibit will showcase a range of forms and materials in puppetry from puppet makers around the Asheville area, depicting animals, both real and imagined. Bringing animals to life through puppetry has a long history. Animal characters are freer than human ones to comment upon authority figures. The stories they tell often bring myth and folklore to life.
A Little Something for Everyone, Especially the Artist
AAAC Front Gallery | October 4 – November 29
Refinery resident artist, Christine Longoria: ‘I don’t like artist statements, because they should always be changing daily too. I just want people to view my work, and see something they have never noticed before. I hope it will change the way they observe and see with new, enlightened eyes. Negative space? A new color way? I want them to know that art, like living, is a risk -taking business.”
Owen Middle School Student Exhibit
AAAC Hall Gallery | October 4 – November 29
The AAAC is excited to exhibit mixed media projects inspired by observations of nature created by the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at Owen Middle School.
