COMMUNITY ART WORKSHOPS – HONORING THE LEGACY OF THE BLOCK
WORKSHOP PURPOSE + OUTCOMES ::
The City of Asheville in partnership with Art Ecologie, adé PROJECT, will host four community workshops to help in the completion of a mural and two installations representing the legacy and memories of THE BLOCK. Residents, and community members are welcomed and invited to become part of the artistic process. The final piece(s) will be unveiled in the Fall. Together, we celebrate African-Americans through public art!

Session I: Thursday, July 25 // Adults (18+ yrs)
11am – 1pm | Instructor(s): Monique Luck + Flavia Lovatelli | Focus: “the people and culture of community”
Session II: Thursday, July 25 // Adults (18+ yrs)
2pm – 6pm | Instructor: Francisco Gonzalez | Notes for this session: Max of 10 participants. Bring something with you that represents a memory, or story of THE BLOCK. | Focus: “the space + the place”
Session III: Friday, July 26 // Youth (10-17 yrs)

Session IV: Friday, July 26 // Youth (10-17 yrs)

ACCESSIBILITY ::
– Spanish interpretation provided upon request, there will be 2-3 bilingual artists/instructors/facilitators on site.
– Childcare available upon request. Depending on need, this may be offsite.
– YMI is accessible by bus route. Parking for those driving will be standard parking downtown, please plan to arrive early to allot time for seeking parking.
– Elevator in building to assist those that cannot climb stairs.
