Banjos — Africa to the New World
This exhibit, by Bob and Leilani Thornburg, traces the development of the banjo from its African roots to the New World. Eventually, banjos were mas-produced in the American factories. This collection of twenty three instruments, mostly reproductions, spans a period of over 300 years and illustrates much of the history of this popular instrument.

Black Owl Guitars
Musician and instrument maker David English of Black Owl Guitars will be on site to discuss the history of handmade instruments and demonstrate his own creations made from recycled materials.

Laura Boosinger 10:00 AM – 12 Noon
Laura, a ballad singer and musician, will be singing and playing both the banjo and guitar.

Self Guiding Music Trail
Starting in the visitor center lobby and running outside for a short walk down the Mountains to Sea trail connector at the VC, the trail features a large xylophone which illustrates the different sounds you can get from various types and lengths of wood. Pick up a self guiding brochure in the lobby!
