CompostNow, Asheville GreenWorks, & New Belgium Brewing are teaming up again to fight scary Halloween food waste!
Most of the 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins produced in the U.S. end up in the landfill. Those nutrients are too precious to waste which is why we’re hosting our 2nd annual community event “Smash Don’t Trash” on Sunday, November 3rd from 12-4pm.
Community members are encouraged to bring their old pumpkins to be composted rather than landfilled. The event will host pumpkin smashing stations, kid-friendly activities, and music on the spacious lawn at New Belgium Brewing Company. There will be delicious beer available for purchase.
All compostables will be processed by Danny’s Dumpster, a family-owned hauling and processing business in Asheville. All compost created from “Smash Don’t Trash” will be shared with Sand Hill Community Garden and Asheville GreenWork’s SandHill Orchard and Nursery.
All are welcome! Join us for a smashing good time!
Nitty Gritty Details: We cannot accept any pumpkins with candles, aluminum foil, or other non-compostable decorations inside them. We cannot accept any painted or be-dazzled pumpkins (unless you remove it first!). Parents are required to stay with their children while they participate.
