Asheville Forest School screening of "School's Out: Lessons from a Forest Kindergarten" @ Lenoir-Rhyne Center for Graduate Studies, Second Floor Boardroom | Asheville | North Carolina | United States

Asheville Forest School is a new nature-based school for ages 3 1/2 – 6 that is based on the Waldkindergarten (“forest kindergarten” in German) concept that has been so beneficial to European children. Mainstream American preschools are increasingly focused on academics, technology and staying indoors. In contrast, we take children out into the woods every day, whatever the weather, and encourage free play and interest-directed learning in the ultimate classroom, Mother Nature.

“School’s Out: Lessons from a Forest Kindergarten” is a powerful and award-winning 35-minute documentary following a Waldkindergarten in Switzerland. It addresses many questions and concerns that parents and educators may have about this “new” and alternative education model. We’ll be screening this film and discussing our new school!
