3rd Annual Montford Midsummer Faire @ Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre | Asheville | North Carolina | United States

Journey back in time!
A FREE summer festival for all ages

Produced by Montford Park Players at the Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre

Saturday, July 15th, Noon-6pm

Hazel Robinson Amphitheater, 92 Gay Street, Asheville, NC

Adults and children of all ages are invited to attend the 3rd Annual Midsummer Faire at Hazel Robinson Amphitheater in the heart of the Montford area of Asheville on Saturday, July 15th from noon until 6pm. The Midsummer Faire will precede the Montford Park Players’ presentation of William Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida and feature free demonstrations by the local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism (“SCA”). Montford Park Players’ performance of Troilus and Cressida follows the Faire, beginning at 7:30.

The members of SCA will showcase activities from the Medieval and Renaissance periods, such as sword fighting, fencing, blacksmithing, woodworking, leatherworking, and more. Children’s activities such as shield making will be available at no charge and participants can try their hand at throwing axes and knives, as well. Food and drink vendors will be plentiful and a good time is promised in this, Asheville’s answer to a full-on Renaissance Faire.

The Faire is family-friendly and costumes are encouraged.
Montford Park Players, is very well-known for presenting Shakespeare and other classical works to the Asheville community since 1973, and has since grown to be one of Western North Carolina’s most beloved cultural attractions. Last year’s Midsummer Faire was such a great success that they have decided to make it an annual tradition to coincide with their outdoor summer season, all of which is free to the public!

Partnering with The Society for Creative Anachronism, an educational, non-profit international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe, has proven to be fruitful, as both groups have a vast knowledge of, and extreme enthusiasm for, the Renaissance period in history. SCA’s “Known World” consists of 20 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, perform public demonstrations and attend events which feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes & workshops, and more. They have been donating time, acumen and resources to charitable events for years.

More information regarding the Faire and Troilus and Cressida, or advanced seating reservations can be made at montfordparkplayers.org or you can call them at (828) 254-5146.
