Day of the Dead Festival / Festival Día de los Muertos (2-15yrs) @ Sugarloaf Elementary | Hendersonville | North Carolina | United States

El Centro of Henderson County is a nonprofit organization, that works to provide services and promote activities that encourage education, inclusion, tolerance and multicultural richness from Latino community. For that reason, since 2014, we celebrate the “Day of the Dead”, which is a traditional Mexican celebration that dates from prehispanic times. In 2003, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated it as a World Heritage Holiday.

Among the activities planned are raffles, costume contests for kids ages 2 to 15, games, music, folk dances, traditional altars, typical Mexican appetizers and food for sale, information booths and a lot of fun for all. This celebration is intended to provide a time of enjoyment in a family-friendly atmosphere for all the community of Henderson County. During the event, we will have a brief explanation of the meaning behind the symbols found on the traditional Day of the Dead altar.
