BUNCOMBE COUNTY SCHOOLS

Please contact your child’s school to schedule a registration appointment on the designated day for your school.

Personnel will be available to complete personal data records and talk with you about the requirements for entering public schools in North Carolina.  Kindergarten Registration Day is a non-school day for present kindergartners.

School District Assignment is determined by the actual street address of the student’s primary residence.  For more information please see the Transportation Department’s School District page: School Districts

School Entry Age (will be verified with the certified birth certificate)

According to North Carolina law a child must turn 5 years old on or before August 31st of the current school year in order to be eligible to enroll.  If the child’s 5th birthday is on or after September 1st, the child is not eligible to enroll until the next school year.

A child whose 4th birthday is on or before April 16th (of the April before school begins in August) may enter kindergarten if they are identified as gifted and have the necessary maturity to succeed in a full day kindergarten setting. For complete information about required testing and criteria that must be met, please refer to Buncombe County School Board Administrative Regulation  4100-R Early Entry to Kindergarten. This Early Entry packet must be completed by the parent/guardian and submitted to the principal no later than 30 days before the beginning of the school year. Entering first graders must be 6 years old by October 16.

ASHEVILLE CITY SCHOOLS

Parents of incoming Kindergarten students should make an appointment at the school their child will attend.  Your child’s school will contact you with more information.

HAYWOOD COUNTY SCHOOLS

Kindergarten registration is opening soon for the 2018-2019 school year.  Children who are five years old on or before August 31, 2018, are eligible for enrollment. Parents may register their child for Kindergarten during the following dates and times.  Please bring proof of age (e.g. birth certificate) along with proof of residency in the school district (e.g. driver’s license with a current address) to registration.

Bethel Elementary – April 25th, 12:30-1:30

Clyde Elementary – April 24th, 3:30-4:30

Hazelwood Elementary – April 24th, 4:00-5:00

Jonathan Valley Elementary – April 23rd, 9:00-10:00

Junaluska Elementary – April 26th, 3:30-4:30

Meadowbrook Elementary – April 24th, 1:15-2:15

North Canton Elementary – April 24th, 1:15-2:15

HENDERSON COUNTY SCHOOLS

Kindergarten Registration:
Tuesday, April 17, 2018, 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Wednesday, April 18, 2018, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Thursday, April 19, 2018, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Registration Locations:

Register your child at the elementary school in your district of residence. If you do not know which school district you live in, call our Transportation Department at (828) 697-4739 for help. In addition to the Kindergarten Registration dates in April, you can register your child anytime during regular school hours. (Contact the school in your district for their summer hours). You can also check out the Henderson County GIS Web Page.

Transfer or Reassignment Information:
All students should be registered at their home school district even if a parent/guardian wishes to make a request for transfer/reassignment to another school or to attend Hendersonville Elementary (Flex Schedule school). You can get a reassignment application at any school or below, under “Additional Forms.” Applications for reassignment should be returned to the school requested during the month of April. Be sure to check out the Board of Public Education’s Policy 410 on Reassignment.

Forms for Kindergarten Registration:

“Required” forms will need to be completed and brought to your school’s Kindergarten Registration when registering your child. These documents can be filled in on your computer and printed. “Additional” forms are for Reassignment or Early Admission requests and are optional.

*Early Admission Information:
Because of the new admission date for Kindergarten, you may be considering Early Admission for your child. This Early Admission Flow Chart details the order of steps required for the Early Admission process. Be sure to review North Carolina’s Early Admission to Kindergarten Policy, as well as our local HCPS Standards for Early Admission and our School Board’s Policy #407 Early Admission to Kindergarten. If you wish to pursue Early Admission, fill out the Early Admission Request Form under “Additional Forms” and contact the principal of the school in your district.
